About the Company's Name...
Three months as a newlywed, Carletta relocated to Indianapolis and accepted a position as area manager with a major finance company. Working 60-70 hours a week was stressful and made it almost impossible to enjoy the benefits of a newlywed. Her husband assessed the situation and said, "I have been watching Oprah and you just need to nurture yourself." That Christmas, he treated her to a day at the spa, a life changing event! She know that if she could make others feel just one-half as great as she had felt with a day of pampering, she should dedicate her life to doing just that.

The name of the Spa - Calming Waters evolved during an afternoon at the mall as she searched for a gift for a friend while quite stressed. Her husband turned to her and said, "You just need to calm down, Carletta. That's what you need to name your business, Just Calm Down." Carletta thought about what her husband had said for a short time then told him, That's it! Calming Waters will be the name of the business."

Calming Waters commenced operations in Southfield, Michigan, July 2003, with a mission of providing stress reduction from a holistic perspective to all persons that they may be not only nurtured, but that they become more empowered to positively affect the world.

About the Owner and Operator...
Carletta E. Griffin, a native of Detroit, Michigan, attended Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she studied business. She later transferred to Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee and graduated with honors. Several years later, Carletta graduated from Honors Beauty College of Indianapolis, Indiana and was licensed by the State in manicuring. Her studies continued in pursuit of an esthetics license. Graduating from Kayes Beauty College of Noblesville, Indiana, under Director Judy Byrd. Carletta has license reciprocity in the State of Michigan, and is also a licensed esthetics instructor. In 2007, Carletta completed her Masters of Business Administration with the University of Phoenix and continues to develop her leadership and professional skills through continuing education.

Carletta has studied and trained under the renowned Dr. Howard Murad. Dr. Murad is a pioneer of many of the advances widely used in skin care and dermatology. She continues to increase her knowledge through various courses and participation in annual skin care expos - always exploring new developments in esthetics. Carletta conducts educational classes for esthetics, while continuing to provide consulting services to various companies. Carletta is married to Juakemo Griffin, who is the company's Chief Financial Officer and they have one son Joshua.
